Raphaèle Bernard Bacot

Educated at the Ecole Supérieure des Arts Graphiques in Paris, she has been devoting
much of her work to the drawing of dancers in action.
She began by drawing during performances and rehearsals of the French choregrapher Serge Ricci.
Her first artist's book '16 Figures', already available in an art collection, was the starting point for her later paintings 'Figures à têtes mobiles' and 'Figures dansées'.

She divides her research between colour, nourished with pure pigments, and drawing. She has called her drawings 'Témoin Dance', a 'drawn report' bearing witness to contemporary choreography. These drawings are sketches, snapshots, of complete sincerity, making no compromise with 'beauty'.

Emerging from all these explorations is a body of work whose intense life and personality distinguish her from her peers.
